My Open Studio Day

A Decade of December Magic: My Open Studio Day Tradition

Every December, the dust is swept, the music is turned up, and my studio transforms for my annual Open Studio Day. This cherished tradition of sharing my work, my space, and my heart with the community, friends, patrons, and collectors is truly the highlight of my year.

It's hard to believe this tradition started way back in 2014. My memory of that first year is a bit foggy—mostly because my sweet daughter, Evelyn, was only two years old! The studio has changed a lot since then, but the spirit of the day remains the same.

This year, however, I did hesitate. Following my total knee replacement earlier this Fall, I haven't been able to stand and paint as I usually do, which made creating new work a challenge. But creativity finds a way! I discovered I can be just as productive painting while sitting in a chair on wheels, and I was able to create a small, new collection just in time for the event.

My heart is full because the day was so well attended. I'm thrilled to share that almost all of my new pieces found homes, along with several works from earlier in the year. A huge thank you to the collectors who brought these pieces into their lives: Golden Pines diptych, A Gathering of Moths, Meeting at the Magnolias, Monarch Cluster, Garden of Petals, Botanicals on a Mossy Bed, and White Lilies in a Vase.

It is always wonderful to spend the day talking about everything from art and inspiration to travel, gardening, trees, moths, butterflies, and texture.

It's always a special, heart-centered, magical day—and this year was no exception! Thank you to everyone who came out to share it with me.
